Meeting 002: “Double Blind” by Teiran

It's a pleasure to see you! We're so glad to see we didn't scare you away after the first episode. No- no, the stain definitely came out. Really, it- it only took a little club soda. But a little collateral damage is to be expected, I suppose, when you host these sorts of things. Have you read this week's story, Double Blind, by Teiran? It's a pretty keen thriller, those high-tech gizmos always fascinate me.

You might have heard the story as read by the wonderful Alex Vance, as well!

And don't forget to read our next story by the inimitable Fuzzwolf: Thous Shalt Not Kill, already available on our blog.

  2. After listening to the reading and podcast, I noticed that this story reminded me of one of my favorite tabletop rpgs (think dungeons and dragons) Shadowrun, a cyberpunk genre rpg. There are quite a few similarities between the two settings, and I now wonder if Teiran plays. I have a feeling he would make an awesome GM.

  3. I don't know, I've never heard of that game. I'll ask him on Twitter.

  4. The story is actually based off of a shadowrun, and was a adventure scenario I decided not to run in my game and instead used as the plot of this story.

The species and tactics of the other runner team are all based off characters from the game I run. My players were... less then amused by how easily I thought up a scenario where they all died. ;-)

  5. I didn't much care for this story when I read it. The style comes off as unpolished and I take serious issue with the use of magic like whoa. The phrase "make-out session" makes me grind my teeth etc... After listening to the discussion I reconsidered my overall assessment and rediscovered some very smart aspects. The section after the big fight scene is 10,000 times better than everything that came before it. The illustration of the ultra-mercenary capitalist world in the conceit of the paramedics was really cool.
It wasn't my perfect cup of tea but there are some really excellent aspects to be found. I'm glad you guys are keeping a good attitude and finding positive things to say about these stories on the whole
